Mirrors and reflections from the Universe

Why is it neat to learn about those? Because you can use them to change really annoying situations, whether social, financial or with family. I used them to change my kid peeing his pants eight times a day, to zero. In 24 hours.

I also got him to stop hitting and kicking me, and to fall asleep faster. Not because I have some magical parenting ability or a “have you tried a bedtime routine?”-one-size-fits-all-advice (I can also google, of course I have tried that!). But because I learned to decode communication from the Universe, and get to the bottom of what was actually going on. Beneath the symptoms annyoing the heck out of me.

The Universe is constantly communicating with you, across a swathe of different channels. One of those ways, is by putting up mirrors in different areas of your life. Learning to decide the reflections from these mirrors, you can use them to change really annoying situations and circumstances, so you don’t have to deal with a variation of the same problem forever. If you want to try and make sense of these, you don’t need to have clair-something, or be a trained intuitive or able to read energy, to put on your imaginary detective hat and start taking a stab at it.

While the examples above are about situations with my kid, I have used these mirrors to gain additional insights into frustrating work situations, removing body symptoms like heartburn and skin issues, as well as improving my sleep and effectiveness – along with the many situations I have looked into for clients. And that is just a few examples.

At this point in my life I look into reflections on a daily basis, because, well… I like to be less annoyed with life.

Let me start with a small introduction to how I see the relationship between our internal worlds, our external realities and what mirrors have to do with any of it.

What happens on the inside, affects the outside world

Maybe you have experienced your body reacting to certain emotions or thoughts? Emotions like grief, anger or fear will lead to physical changes in the body (e.g. hormonal changes, increased heart rate, chest pain). And other feelings, like happiness, joy or love can do the same. If you have ever dealt with anxiety, you know how intensely overwhelming the bodily response can be, but there are also other examples:

  • You vividly think about your favorite food, and your mouth starts watering

  • You think about an uncomfortable conversation you are about to have, and your heartrate picks up.

  • You think about the second you saw a positive pregnancy test and your body relives that feeling

  • You remember the moment your doctor gave you a certain message, and your body remembers too.

Our thoughts and emotions directly influence our physical bodies. Many professional athletes routinely work with visualization (thoughts) and emotions, to improve their performances in the physical world.

While the body is one of the places directly influenced by our thoughts and emotions, it goes further than that. The people around us, the situations we find ourselves in, our social interactions, are also influenced by our thoughts and emotions. Whether it happens in the body or in social interactions, you can think about this as Source or the Universe (or whatever word you like), holding up a mirror, reflecting your internal state back to you. If you have a perfectly balanced perception and view of every single thing all the time, that will be what the mirrors shows you. But as humans, we constantly fall out of having a balanced perception, because life, and other people, and old traumas and lack of sleep and so on.

This means that if you are out of balance somewhere internally (this could be your thoughts, your feelings or your perceptions), this will in some shape or form be reflected back to you in the outside world, in increasingly annoying or difficult situations and circumstances. While it can sometimes be easier to ignore a subconscious belief that keeps tripping us up or how we talk to ourselves when something didn’t go as planned, it is usually way harder to ignore a person at work that keeps berating you or a kid that continuously refuses something.

This is actually great news. Because it also means that by addressing the internal imbalance, you can influence what is being reflected back to you in the outside world.

This might not be the right thing for you, but to me it has been one of the missing pieces to take back my agency in frustrating situations and circumstances, whether bigger situations or smaller annoyances. And to change those circumstances going forward

Let us dive into the actual decoding below. I will start by introducing the formula to you – bear with me if it sounds abstract - and afterwards I will walk you through a couple of examples from my own life to make it more tangible.

Decoding reflections from the Universe:

The first requirement is having a situation you actually want to change. If everything in your life is A-OK, well… There isn’t actually an issue. So, first thing’s first: You have a situation you want to change. Like “my boss always picks on me”, “no one sees the value I am providing”, “I feel unfulfilled in life”, “None of the people I have dated ever took initiative and made me feel special”.

The formula:

1) What is the situation

2) What is my emotional judgement of it – before you become rational or fair. Why does it actually bother you? You might have to do a few “but why is that important” to get to the root of it.

3) Where am I doing that to myself (the emotional judgement part)? This is always somewhere else than where the situation is currently playing out. So, if the annoying situation is with your partner or your kid, the actual problem is not with your family, it is somewhere else.

4) What can I do to shift this? This can be the perspective on it (energetic actions) and / or doing something different (physical actions). All of us are energetic entities living in physical bodies, so depending on the situation, it can be necessary to address it both in the energetic and in the physical.

In it’s essense, this is the formula for decoding a reflection. Let me jump into a couple of examples from the last 6 months of my life, to make it more tangible. While all these are examples of situations with my kid, this process can be used on a whole range of situations from your life, situations with a partner, a neighbor, colleagues or a stranger in the supermarket being really rude to you.

Example 1: My kid peeing his pants 8 times a day

Situation: My kid has stopped using diapers around a week ago and is back in kindergarten. He has had a couple of accidents a day, which I think is expected in the beginning. Then from one day to the next, he starts having 8 accidents a day. This happens Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday morning, after dropping him off I am driving home. I am frustrated with the last couple of days, and I am thinking “Why can’t he just listen to his body and give it what it needs? I know he can do it, he was able to do it the other days” (this is my emotional judgment of the situation, before “he is just a little kid, he is learning, he was probably just really caught up in playing” and such thoughts kicks in).

And then it hits me: This is exactly what I am doing to myself. I have not been listening to my body over the last few days, giving it what it is telling me it needs. (Where am I doing this to myself: My physical body). Because I have been busy, with stuff, just like we alle are. When my body called for rest, I ignored it – I didn’t take a break during the day, I didn’t go to bed when tired (I scrolled on my phone), I didn’t relax with a book in the evening instead of cleaning up the kitchen. When it told me I needed to go to the restroom, I postponed because I wanted to finish putting clothes away or needed to wrap up some work, and suddenly an hour or two had passed. When it told me it was hungry or thirsty, I would ignore it and push through, until eating or drinking something fit into my (totally self-imposed) pre-defined schedule of the day. When it told me it craved silence, I ignored it and instead I listened to a podcast, because I wanted to satisfy some kind of urgency around feeling like I was staying up to date and learning something new.

What can I do to shift this? I went about my day but stopped ignoring the needs my body was communicating to me. I rested when it called for that and got food and water when I was hungry or thirsty. I skipped urgency-listening or urgency-reading anything to stay up to date (an urge that was totally self-imposed). I went to the restroom within a few minutes of realizing I needed to go. That evening, I even went to bed a little bit earlier.

When I picked up my kid from daycare Wednesday afternoon, he had had exactly zero accidents. From 8 accidents a day, to zero. It stayed like this, because I keep an eye on not ignoring my body’s needs. On the rare day that I pick him up and he has had an accident, I know it is a gentle nudge to check in with my body and see what needs I have been ignoring over the last day or two.

Example 2: Reducing the time it takes my kid to fall asleep

Situation: My kid would be so, so tired, and I would put him to bed. He would be rolling around, kicking the duvet off, fidgeting, talking, asking questions. I had already implemented different physical things: Deep pressure, weighted blanket, ensuring he had had lots of physical movement during the day, sleep needs and wake windows according to age.Nothing really seemed to be making a difference. It could take hours to get him to sleep.

I was getting frustrated, I felt like he was refusing to let himself relax into the rest he needed, almost unable to turn off his body (emotional judgement).

Where am I doing this to myself? I was doing this mentally. I would be doing the physical things of resting: Sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea. Telling my kid, he needed to play on his own for a bit so I could relax. Occasionally taking a long shower. However, I did all of this while never having my brain shut off. So while doing all of these things, my brain would constantly be running in the background – usually thinking about the next thing on my to do list, planning something, thinking through logistics, mulling over a work issue – something. My brain was never shutting off in these moments of rest, despite me setting up the “physical” aspects of it.

What can I do to shift this? It took conscious effort to train my brain to shut off in these moments. To allow it to rest. I still have to actively do this sometimes, if I am in a busy period. I will literally tell my brain “Not now. You can pick up thinking about this again in 10 minutes / after the shower / tomorrow. Not now”. And then focus on something else to trick it into letting go – my breathing, a bird outside, the temperature of the water. Something physical, that I will give my full attention for a few seconds.

Example 3: My kid playfully hitting and kicking me

Situation: Throughout the day, my kid would be hitting and kicking me – but it would be playfully most of the time. Not during meltdowns or in anger, more like a teasing, “this is fun, play with me” kind of thing. It had been going on for several (long) days, despite me continually telling him I didn’t find it funny and to stop. So finally I got to “maybe the Universe is trying to show me something here” instead of brushing it off.

Emotional judgment: He is beating me up, but in a playful way

Where am I doing this to myself? I traced this back to a financial situation around a week earlier. I had a call regarding payment for some upcoming work, and I slipped into an old pattern of under-selling myself and the value I was about to deliver. I caught myself somewhat during the conversation, but that was not actually the issue. The real issue was how I talked about it afterwards. In conversations with a few friends, I would playfully narrate the conversation, poking fun at myself for how I handled it and some of the things I had said during the conversation. So even though it sounded innocent enough, what I was actually doing was subconsciously beating myself up for falling into an old pattern, but expressing it in a playful way through a veil of “it’s just for fun!”.

What can I do to shift this? I stopped talking about the conversation like that (physical action). I changed my perspective into seeing how this was one of the first times my new rates and a new mindset around money was being put to the test. So instead of beating myself up (however playfully) for falling into the old pattern to start with, I commended myself for catching it while it happened and changing it during the conversation, and how it was a perfect practice run for later situations.

A couple of additional notes

A lot of the time, the Universe will place the mirror in an area of life that is near and dear to you, to ensure it gets your attention. That is why for me, the Universe is often thrusting the mirror into the hands of my kid, so to speak. You might see the mirrors pop up in situations with your partner, your physical body as injuries, or in your career or finances – it all depends on where you are paying the most attention.

Just remember that the thing you are emotional about is not the actual problem.

The frustrating colleague is not the actual problem. Or the partner ignoring you. Or the kid being unable to sit still. They are symptoms – the actual problem is somewhere else, in the way you think, feel or perceive in a different area of your life. Despite being several years down the road working with this, this is still something that I tend to forget when I am emotional about something.

You don’t have to be able to read energy as a trained intuitive or channeler to do this. It can make the process faster and more precise. But if you want to try it out, you will get far by sitting down with a notebook and working your way through the process above. Just take a stab at it and know it is something you get better at every time you do it.

With this, we are just scratching the surface about reflections and how to decode them, we are probably at 0.2 of what there is to talk about. Give me unlimited snacks and a whiteboard, and we could be at it for hours! There is so much more to dive into, depending on the specific situation you are trying to decode, variations of the questions you can ask to get to the root cause, how big the imbalance is and how loud the reflection has become. I would love to expand on that another time.

If you had any questions, thoughts or epiphanies, either while reading it or after trying it out, I would love to hear from you.
